Hands down my favorite Senator of all time. He honestly CARED about people and those that might not otherwise get a voice in the legislature. He fought for universal health care throughout his career, believing it was not a privilege but a right. He rallied for civil rights, workers rights, and the rights of the disabled, believing everyone should be treated with respect and dignity. He was a vocal advocate for LGBT rights and adamant about his support for women’s rights. He fought for compassionate immigration reform empathizing with the plight of those that just wanted a better life for their families. He’s the reason why I will always be proud of the term “liberal”. He would have been 79 today .
