For anyone interested in watching a great documentary on the legislative side of immigration reform

“The Senator’s Bargain” is coming on HBO 2 West today at 5:30 EST/2:30 PST. It’s a look into Senator Kennedy’s fight for fair immigration reform and it’s really eye opening. This documentary rarely comes on, so I thought I’d point it. Here is a link to the trailer.
Hands down my favorite Senator of all time. He honestly CARED about people and those that might not otherwise get a voice in the legislature. He fought for universal health care throughout his career, believing it was not a privilege but a right. He rallied for civil rights, workers rights, and the rights of the disabled, believing everyone should be treated with respect and dignity. He was a vocal advocate for LGBT rights and adamant about his support for women’s rights. He fought for compassionate immigration reform empathizing with the plight of those that just wanted a better life for their families. He’s the reason why I will always be proud of the term “liberal”. He would have been 79 today .
“Every American should have the opportunity to receive a quality education, a job that respects their dignity and protects their safety, and health care that does not condemn those whose health is impaired to a lifetime of poverty and lost opportunity.”
-Senator Edward Kennedy (February 22, 1932 – August 25, 2009)
